Our Adoption Fees
The adoption fee is designed to offset some of the expenses we incur in caring for each animal.
Dogs - $105
Puppies - $130 (6 months and younger)
Cats - $25 (seniors), $55 (adult cats)
Kittens - $80 (kittens 6 months and under)
Feline leukemia testing (cats)
Heartworm testing and monthly preventative (dogs)
Spayed or neutered
Adoption fees are non-refundable. They provide needed income to care for the pets that come to us.
Happy Tails strives to find permanent homes for its animals by matching the right pet with the right family at the time of adoption. We understand, however, that there are certain circumstances in which a pet may not work out. If at any time an adopter can no longer keep an adopted pet, the animal is to be returned to Happy Tails.
Happy Tails makes no representation, warranty, or guarantee on the health, behavior, age, or temperament of any animal. Where a pet's owner is known, we do ask about the history and behavior of the animal; however, Happy Tails makes no representation, guarantee or warranty.
You can view our adoptable pets on Petfinder.com or by coming to the shelter. We also have special adoption events at PetSmart in Sterling and other locations.
All pet adoptions require a completed adoption application. Our office staff and volunteers act as matchmakers to find animals good homes. Your responses on the adoption application help them make a good match. You can also take our Meet Your Match survey (see below), which matches adopters with pets.
Adopters must be 21 years of age and live within 200 miles of our shelter. Complete an adoption application (see below) by hand or download Adobe Reader (free) to complete the application electronically.
Send your application to:
Mail: Happy Tails Humane Society, 1408 McNeil Rd, Rock Falls, IL 61071
E-mail: email@example.com. If e-mailing from a cell phone, attach your application as screen shots.
Our shelter staff will review your application and notify you. The application requests various references. You can help the review process by letting those you name know that you have an application in place with Happy Tails and that we will be contacting them. Better yet--ask them to contact us!
Meet Your Match
Happy Tails can help you find the best dog or cat for your preferences and lifestyle. The Meet Your Match program assesses an animal's behavior and places him or her in one of three color-coded categories along with one of three sub-categories that further describes the animal's personality. Adopters complete a survey and based on the answers to some basic questions, are given a purple, orange, or green card. The adopters can then find which animals are a match for them. We are the only animal shelter in the Whiteside County area using this innovative program. Come out and let us help you meet your match!
