Our humane education programs teach children, adults, and school groups about compassionate and responsible pet ownership. We visit schools and host field trips to our shelter.

Private and In-Home Training Classes

Do you think you and your dog would prefer a little more one and one time with one of our trainers? At HT we offer a few different packages for both In-Home Training Sessions and Private Lessons.

Private Lessons

Private lessons will work on the issues the handler deems necessary and also provide a training option for people who have schedules that make a regular training class impossible. Private training may be a good starting place for very fearful dogs.r paragraph here. HT trainers travel from Sterling to Rockford and beyond. Text 815-703-3079 for more information.

Dog Training at HT

Let's face it, Training Classes are an investment of both time and money; however, the return on that investment can be life changing for you and your companion. Learning to train your pet is fun and doesn't require any specialized experience. Your pet will benefit from clear leadership, exercise, training and play. The result will be a well-mannered family member that is happy and a joy to live with.

Basic Training Classes

Want your dog to know "sit," "stay," and "down"? Our enthusiastic instructors will help you learn to build a strong bond with your companion by improving communication, understanding, and appropriate boundariesType your paragraph here. Become a Happy Tails volunteer

Our cats and dogs depend on their volunteers to feed them, clean their kennels and cages, brush them, and enrich their lives through walks, play time, and lots of love.  Volunteers also help keep the shelter building clean and well maintained, transport pets to the veterinary clinic, work at fundraisers and much more.  The shelter needs scheduled volunteers who can be at the shelter on a regular basis.  The frequency and amount of time a volunteer can give is less important than regularity of service. We also need volunteers for our adoption events and especially for our Adoption Center at Northland Mall, which opens Thanksgiving Day and is open throughout December.
